STEM Career Navigator Program – Cohort 2025

A Launchpad for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

Are you a woman passionate about building a purposeful and impactful career in STEM?

The STEM Career Navigator Program is a 6-month mentorship and career development program that equips women with the tools, networks, and confidence to grow, lead, and thrive in their diverse STEM journeys.

Hosted at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and sponsored by the Henry Luce Foundation, this program is the first phase of the flagship STEM Elevate Initiative, which seeks to strengthen the pipeline of women leaders across STEM fields in Ghana and beyond.

What the Program Offers

Participants will benefit from:

  • Structured, one-on-one mentorship with experienced STEM professionals.
  • Career guidance tailored to each participant’s goals—whether in academia, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, consultancy, education, health, public service, or other STEM-related pathways.
  • Skills-building workshops on communication, grant writing, personal branding, strategic planning, and more.
  • Peer learning and community-building through group mentoring, shared problem-solving, and team projects.
  • Exposure and visibility through curated showcase events and institutional platforms.

Eligibility to advance into:

  • The Leadership & Advocacy Academy, a 6-month intensive training in leadership, systems thinking, and policy engagement.
  • The STEM Impact Grants, providing seed funding for outstanding women-led projects addressing challenges such as climate change, health equity, and STEM education.

Who Should Apply?

We welcome applications from women at all stages of their STEM journeys, including:

  • Researchers, educators, innovators, and practitioners across all STEM fields
  • Final-year undergraduate students
  • Master’s and doctoral students
  • Early-career STEM professionals (1-5 years post STEM qualification)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be available to fully participate in all program activities (virtual and in-person).
  • Must identify as a woman.
  • Must be based in Ghana or affiliated with a Ghanaian institution.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to a STEM-related career and leadership development.

Program Details

Cost: Fully sponsored (no fees required)

Duration: 6 months (October 2025 – March 2026)

Location: Hybrid (in-person sessions + virtual programming)

How to Apply

  • A 2-page CV (education, experience, achievements).
  • Responses to the following Motivation & Fit questions:
    1. Why do you want to join the STEM Career Navigator Program, and what do you hope to gain from it?
    2. Describe a key challenge you’ve faced in your STEM journey and how you overcame it (or are working to overcome it).
    3. Describe your vision for your career in STEM over the next 5 years. What steps are you already taking toward this vision?
    4. How do you currently contribute to supporting other women or young people in STEM, and how would this program strengthen that role?
    5. What does leadership in STEM mean to you, and how do you see yourself practicing it in your community or workplace?
    6. Describe an initiative, project, or idea you would like to pursue if given the opportunity through the STEM Elevate Program (e.g., STEM Impact Grants).
