STEM Elevate Celebrates Growth, Leadership and Impact at Career Navigator Program Final Showcase Ceremony

STEM Elevate successfully hosted the Final Showcase Ceremony for the inaugural cohort of the Career Navigator Program on 20th June 2026 at the Ibis Styles Hotel, Accra.

The event brought together fellows, mentors, and partners for a reflective and inspiring celebration of growth, leadership, and transformation of young women in STEM.

Launched in November 2025, the Career Navigator Program is STEM Elevate’s first structured fellowship designed to support young women in STEM through mentorship, career guidance, and professional development.

The inaugural cohort featured 24 women from 22 STEM fields across six cities, reflecting a commitment to inclusion and diversity. Over the course of six months, participants engaged in mentorship sessions, professional development workshops, microcredential learning, networking opportunities, internships, shadowing experiences, and real-world projects. By the end of the journey, 12 participants successfully completed the program and participated in the final showcase event, demonstrating significant personal and professional growth.

The showcase ceremony provided fellows with an opportunity to present their journeys, achievements, and reflections through presentations, poster sessions, and networking activities.

A Celebration of Growth and Possibility

The event began with registration and networking, followed by opening remarks delivered by Prof. Priscilla Mante. A video highlight capturing key moments from the six-month journey set the tone for the day, creating an atmosphere of reflection, inspiration and celebration. From the first orientation sessions to the final presentations, the journey had been marked by growth, collaboration, resilience, and transformation.

Fellows then delivered presentations showcasing the projects, certifications, internships, advocacy initiatives, shadowing experiences, and career development activities completed during the fellowship.

Their work reflected the diversity of the cohort’s interests and impact areas, including research methods, science communication, healthcare leadership, public health, renewable energy, project management, AI and machine learning data analytics, food safety, quality assurance, and community engagement.

Several participants shared how the program helped them gain clarity on their career paths, strengthen their professional identity, and develop the confidence to pursue opportunities they previously felt uncertain about.

Among the major highlights of the journey were the completion of microcredential courses, participation in one-on-one mentorship, exposure to workplace environments through internships and shadowing opportunities, and the development of practical projects connecting learning to real-world impact.

The event also featured team activities, audience engagement sessions, networking opportunities, and a certificate presentation ceremony recognizing the commitment and achievements of the cohort.

Mentorship, Visibility and Leadership

Although initially planned as a fireside conversation, the mentor reflection session evolved into one of the most memorable moments of the event as mentors took turns sharing practical advice, encouragement, and honest reflections with participants.

A recurring message throughout the session was the importance of visibility, networking, and intentionally positioning oneself for opportunities. Mentors encouraged participants to “put themselves out there,” build strong professional online presences, apply boldly for opportunities, and make intentional use of the current season of growth and exploration in their lives.

Other reflections emphasized embracing support systems, navigating non-linear career journeys, and understanding that growth often requires balancing multiple responsibilities while remaining open to learning and collaboration.

One mentor remarked that “applying itself is a skill,” encouraging participants to consistently pursue opportunities, even in moments of uncertainty.

The discussion reinforced one of STEM Elevate’s core values — that mentorship, visibility, and community are essential in empowering women to thrive and lead within STEM spaces.

Beyond the Fellowship: Opportunities and Collaboration

One of the most inspiring aspects of the showcase ceremony was the continuation of support and collaboration even as the fellowship officially came to a close.

Several participants gained new opportunities through networking and conversations during the event. Mentors offered postgraduate school application guidance and career support to interested participants, while others shared grant writing support and project development guidance.

The event also demonstrated the strong peer support cultivated throughout the program. In one notable moment, a participant volunteered to support another fellow with flyer designs for her emerging yoghurt business venture.

These interactions reflected the strong sense of community built throughout the fellowship and demonstrated how the program created lasting professional and personal connections beyond the formal training period.

An end-of-program evaluation further reflected the program’s impact, with fellows reporting significant growth in confidence, leadership, communication, networking, career clarity, and technical skills. Many described the program as transformational, practical, and deeply relevant to their personal and professional aspirations.

Looking Ahead

In addition to marking the conclusion of the inaugural Career Navigator cohort, this event also served as an important milestone in STEM Elevate’s mission to transform, empower, and elevate women in STEM through mentorship, leadership development, and practical opportunities for growth.

As STEM Elevate prepares to launch the Leadership & Advocacy Academy, the stories and achievements shared during the showcase stand as a powerful reminder of what is possible when women in STEM are given the support, community, and opportunities to thrive.

The journey continues, and this is only the beginning.
